TIME MANAGEMENT

(B3) SUMMATIVE EVALUATION

This is another one of my briefs that I had changed from the original as mentioned before. My problem was getting illustrators interested in collaborating when they are either busy themself or have struggled to work remotely. Fortunately, if the collaborators struggled to do work for this project, it was adaptable to be either a large or small project. If anything, they helped a lot during the research and brainstorming stage of the design process and obviously provided me with the ingredient designs.  I should have continued working on this project before correspondence with the illustrators because that would have allowed much more time for development, especially on the labels. However, I probably should have taken some pressure off of myself for this brief and made it smaller. Nevertheless, I actually was extremely pleased with the outcomes given the lack of development on the labels. I think the save for this project was the jars that we had found for the packaging.

(B3) FINAL OUTCOMES/ DESIGNS

Some of the colours used in the logos did not translate well to the labels so I had to tweak a few to make it all work coherently. All of the hues and tones are in a similar muted colour scheme to give the audience a sense of calm and relaxation.  We had been discussing what sort of slogan to have besides the logo and this just made sense. Especially with the fun names that we had previously given the teas  The name of the teas is much smaller because this is meant to show the branding whereas the label focuses on the flavour  The Hotshots were a more last-minute addition that followed the same design and layout as the label. I did think about them just being random unknown flavours however, It would have only been an easier option not necessarily the best  The labels used the same colour scheme as the corresponding logo design  The digitally painted illustrations by the artists in this collaboration were the focal elements of the label, displaying the individual ingredients in each te

(B3) LABEL DEVELOPMENT

Image
Luckily the labels for the packaging are quite large which let us have a certain level of freedom  We still had to weary of the ingredients illustrations because of how the detail may lose clarity when reduced in size - originally they were going to part of a leaflet design for the teas but, we just chose to do packaging  We did really like the idea of having the illustrations of the ingredients on the label so the buyer can see for themself exactly what ingredients are in the loose leaf tea

(B3) LOGO DEVELOPMENT

Image
These stickers are primary there to show off the logo as the label is where the name and benefits of the tea will be going. However, I did want to maybe have the tea name small  I chose the Futura font because it worked effectively in conjunction with the Rumbled Brave and used it for the surrounding text in some of the logo developments  My favourite experiment was the one for the 'Happy Days' tea. We chose a short and simple slogan that encompasses the tone of the branding

(B3) DIGITAL ILLUSTRATIONS

The illustrators digitally painted the main ingredients for the tea's for the packaging  We kept a sketchy linework based style going to fit in with the art nouveau themes

(B3) LOGO EXPERIMENTS

Image
I had already decided upon the logotype earlier however, we had not considered much of the research at that point and there had not been any experimentation  I tried applying the frames from before to the logotype but, as I thought, it was just too overpowering to look at  The illustrators had sketched some pixie silhouettes for me to add to the logo but, I could not get the shapes to look right and drew one myself We all agreed that we liked the logotype and pixie design. Considering the chosen packaging, we thought that the circle would be the most appropriate shape to stick to the cork lid on the jars  Using our colour schemes, we thought it would make sense to design the logo in the appropriate colours for the corresponding teas  Some hues were changed so that they all worked separately but also looked uniformed beside each other  Next is to think of a slogan that might use some space on the sticker

(B5) SUMMATIVE EVALUATION

This has been my favourite project for the Extended Practice module. I do feel like my practice benefits from a lot of contextual and conceptual research because it ends up informing the designs better later on. It may have been beneficial to have started and completed this project closer to the initial briefing because a lot more experimentation could have been done without too much of a time restraint. In the same vain, this could have meant less time would have been spent on other projects. Therefore, hindering the designs for my other briefs.  Also, I would have liked to take a lot more source images of the actual buildings in Leeds however, once again time constraints made it difficult as well as travel restrictions.

(B5) FINAL OUTCOMES/ DESIGNS

After designing the embellishments and illuminated manuscripts, I made sure the continuity of design and typesetting had been maintained throughout every page. The main issue I had with the design of this zine was the title pages. I was happy I could use the large illustration for the "The Key features of gothic architecture", it just seemed right for it to be there. Then for the styles of Gothic Architecture, I created a visual timeline that used the curvilinear line like I had for the map later on for the "Gothic architecture in Leeds".  The zine brought together all of the best parts of the project into one place. Like the Gothic Architecture infographic I looked at in my research, I think the zine is a modern and professional design that will encourage young people to appreciate Gothic Architecture in Leeds and know more about it.
