(B5) LEEDS SELF-GUIDED ARCHITECTURE TOUR
- I had found this website whilst doing my research and thought it could be another way to respond to my brief. This is exactly what is says, a self-guided tour of Leeds architecture. It gives you basic directions to buildings of interest and states some information about it.
- The idea is good and is a great way to get tourists and visitors to engage with the architecture in Leeds. However, the guide is ugly and basic. The only consideration being the practicality of the design rather than its appearance.
- Not all of the buildings have images beside them either for a visual reference which could make it difficult to identify the buildings in the guides.
- The information on the buildings is easy to digest but does not elaborate on much which may make the statements meaningless. Like, is there any point in stating it is a late Gothic building if the user does not even know what Gothic means in architecture? It must be aimed at people with an interest in architecture which would make sense given the lack of expansion but, also makes me question why they left interesting facts out and things that this audience would actually understand?
- This has just made me consider questions I need to be asking myself throughout my practice, to ensure my design is suitable for its audience.
