(B5) GOTHIC ARCHITECTURE VISUAL INFOGRAPHIC
- This online infographic was a huge influence on this project and one of the first designs that I looked at. I love how the design is minimal but also shows the detail and extravagance of Gothic Architecture.
- It is interesting to look at and has come away from the typical academic, historical article. Instead, the designer has gone for a sleek professional design that is easy to engage with and understand.
- There are a lot of technical components to Gothic Architecture and I think this approach is probably the most effective for me to use within my own project. I am aiming my designs at people who live and commute through Leeds, which is a huge amount of people from all sorts of different demographics. Simplifying the language used to describe Gothic Architecture, opens the usability for more people and is less likely to separate the target audience.
- The colour scheme of black and yellow is an amazing choice, the black signifying the Gothic style and the huge silhouettes of the buildings and the yellow showing the rich, ornate beauty hidden within. I had already chosen to go for a black and white colour scheme but, I may change that after looking at this and my conceptual/ contextual research.
- The typeface used for the headers is a bespoke serif that shows a lot of influence from the 13th century (Gothic fonts dominated this time as did Gothic buildings). It shows a modern refinement and thinning to show how that type would work today. Similarly to modern-day Gothic Architecture.
