(B4) ADDING TYPE

  • I struggled to figure out how to layout my typography for the book cover. The general design I was really pleased with and I did not want to change it just to fit the type in. I think it could end up looking like it is not considered or planned.
  • I really liked the serif font I used earlier and I felt it added the sharp tone needed to show the seriousness of the book.
  • Like I said previously though, I wanted to be experimental with the typography, so I started making some three-dimensional letterforms for 'Earth'. This made it so I could make it look like they were floating in the water like the buildings.
  • Meanwhile, I used the 'Academy Engraved LET' serif for the remaining type. The two worked well together and conveyed the message of the title.
  • I tried to set the type to a baseline that fit the lines of water. Unfortunately, this looked terrible, especially seen as it is not a block of text but, a list of quotes from papers and critiques.
