"LISTEN" AND "EXPERIENCE" PAGE DEVELOPMENTS
- I really struggled to come up with an effective design for the song playing pages. I wanted to tie the artist in with their music which is something I previously experimented within my initial ideas. Once again the original photograph has not been taken by me.
- The original sketched over images were rough and I wanted to refine the drawings to have a good likeliness to the album cover illustrations (which I did not design either).
- Unlike Spotify and other streaming services, I wanted the song playing page to be unique to the song and the musicians. I used the illustrations from the album cover to find the two key colours that became the gradient background. The aim of this was to bring the album cover and my illustrated photograph together.
- The first and second screenshots show the album divided into three, I wanted it to represent the breaking down of "limitations" that designers have perceived streaming services to cause. That in fact, the is more opportunities to design for music, than ever.
- However, I wanted to keep some continuity even on the unique song pages. I had been using a linear grid system previously on the menu pages- inspired by the lines shown on the luminetri scopes.
- The appearance was much clearer and matched that of the rest of the app. I did not like the white type though so, I tried the black as it matched the linework of the illustrations. It was less of a contrast and did not take the focus from the images on the page.
- I also thought that the page lacked a back button, I did not want it to limit a persons mobility through the app by having to go all the way back to the main menu.
- I was really stuck on how I should design the 'Experience' pages and was tempted to just use the same design as the 'Listen' pages. I did not want to begin being lazy with this design so soon.
- It needed to have a likeliness but I also wanted it to show the difference between just listening and then experiencing the scopes. I called it an experience because it's a keyword in phenomenology used to describe the first-person perspective of an experience. It speaks about how it does not focus on senses alone but many other things contribute, like the event happening, the setting etc. I tried to consider that in the design and the function of the 'Experience' option. The lumeti scope projections target the visual and audio senses, however, the mood created by the music and lighting has a combined effect on the individual which creates a completely new experience.
- I used my illustrated image and further edited it. First, I tried using colour overlays of red, green and blue but, they were so contrasting compared to the background and the scopes. So, I thought I would focus on one colour. I was already using red for the activated 'Airplay' button which led me to use that first. The way it made the eyes look was really interesting and went with the genre of the band. I asked a lot of people and what their opinion was and put the design beside the 'listen' page design to show how they compared and contrasted. Everyone agreed that the almost neon looking images were just too bright and hard to look at. There were a few that liked the bottom middle design because the colours were more muted. Nevertheless, the last one was the most liked and it went the best with its 'listen' page.
