TASK TWO: DESIGN PRACTICE

SET ONE

When considering your design practice what have you learnt in the last seven days?

That when I put less pressure on myself to produce huge quantities of written work and get straight to the point, it allows me far more time for the physical side of the project. Keeping my notes simple and not waffling has made it easier to reference back and remember key elements of the textual and/ or visual information.

What practical skill do you envy in others?

I feel that I lack a lot of digital design skills, I find designing for websites or apps really difficult. My designs do not look effective and it really shows against others. However, I am trying to learn to use more motion graphics/ animation to improve this.

What do you admire the most about yourself?

The thing I admire about myself is also something that I dislike about myself. I can give very good ideas to other students briefs and critique the work they have produced to make it better suited to what is being asked of them. I also dislike this because, I struggle to do this for myself and it disappoints me.

Do you think social media effects your mental health?

There was a time where it did when I was younger however, like many other people, we learn that it is not worth the time of day.

Do you use humour improve your design practice?

Depending on the project I guess, I cannot say I have experienced this.

SET TWO

Is there anything you do differently to most people in relation to your design practice?

I use a lot of illustration in my personal work as it is also something I am very passionate about. However, I have not used it so much in my university work because I was worried it took my work away from being graphic design.

What makes you laugh?

I find memes funny, the majority of times, especially the ones I can relate to.

What is your biggest strength?

I think I can be a good leader and working in a team. I know where other peoples strengths are and make sure work is delegated accordingly. Likewise, I take my role in a group seriously and try my best to push everyone I am working with.

Would you consider yourself introverted or extroverted when presenting your work?

Once again, it depends on the project, I can be very critical of my work and not have any confidence in it. However, there are moments I want to show the whole world.

What is your worst habit when evaluating your work formatively?

I have a tendency to be very biased about my own work. Even if its well justified design choices and effectively meets the brief, if I do not like it, I will scrap it.

SET THREE

What is the biggest waste of time in your day?

Cooking, it is a necessary evil, I have to do it and used to enjoy it, but now it just gets in the way and takes up too much time in the day. Then there is eating it and cleaning up after etc.

What brief are you looking forward to at the moment?

Both the competition briefs look really exciting. Mainly, because I do intend to use my illustration within my design and I feel confident I can do that with these briefs. I have already decided I want to design the non- fiction adult book cover because the book is about climate change which is a topic I am very passionate about.

What do you often complain about when you are researching?

Well, I used to enjoy going through books, finding the relevant information. However, with the pandemic this experience had dramatically changed. I hate scrolling through an ebook and it makes it a longer process to find the right information.

What new design process do you want to learn?

I want to expand my knowledge on animation, I played around with it on the something more project and I think it will make my digital designs a lot more effective.

What is the biggest challenge you have had to overcome in last two years within your design process?

Time- management, I have found it so hard to plan my time properly so I can have enough time to do everything for an assignment. This was mostly down to me pressuring myself to write pages upon pages on one piece of design. This is already something I am improving on.
