TASK ONE: STATEMENT OF INTENT

I have not come to the point where I know exactly what design discipline I want to focus on. However, I have always been interested in designing for a cause, whether it be sustainability, feminism and countless others. Working on projects like this have really developed my design process, especially when incorporating my illustration and typographic designs. I used to struggle with putting the two together however, towards the end of last year I found a way to incorporate both using typography and image manipulation. Colour experimentation played a huge part in making everything work cohesively and is something I will continue to do this year. 

A lot of my designs are influenced by a range of research conducted before hand, not only graphic designers but also, illustrators, and musicians. I want my design to evoke emotion from the audience, create an atmosphere where I control how the audience feels. I am hoping to conduct briefs that allow more experimentation to do this, using sound and motion, as well as using the techniques I mentioned above.

  • Try to use less self-deprecating language
  • Use the "I like designing for a cause" as an anchor, explain why, talk about projects where you have done this
  • Be straight to the point

Sustainability and environmental activism have always been strong influencer of my work. It is something that I am passionate about and intend to keep on designing for. My two strongest projects last year both had a heavy focus on this cause, one looking at how typography is used within environmental activism, the other designing typographic posters about the plastic pollution problem. I was extremely proud of these designs and their meaning which have made me want to continue doing this. Working on projects like this have really developed my design process, especially when incorporating my illustration and typographic designs. Colour experimentation played a huge part in making everything work cohesively and is something I will continue to do this year. 

This year I want to try using more animation and sound (or design for music) within my work. I have already started trying to incorporate these into my designs. I want my design to evoke emotion from the audience, create an atmosphere where I control how the audience feels. I am hoping to conduct briefs that allow more experimentation to do this, as well as using the techniques I mentioned above.

(B5) GOTHIC ARCHITECTURE: KEY TERMINOLOGY

In order to understand the texts related to Gothic architecture, I really need to understand the terminology as I aforementioned when looking at the previous text. I will be listing definitions along the way to better understand.
