(B1) SILENT SCREAM BY LAURINE MARCIN, CELIEN DESTEUCQ, BARALE ALESSANDRA
- A publication in dedication to mental health
- Very little type throughout the whole of the publication
- Black and white
- Perfect bound
- Photographs and shape placement varies from page to page
- Always square frames (Boxed in?)
- Minimalist
- Project is named Silent Scream but, only "Silent" is on the front cover "Scream" is on the back, further conveying the concept. Also, allows the reader to see the emotions for what they are without a textual prompt
- Some of the images are of statues
- You can hear the images
- Well photographed, makes the publication look very professional
I think this publication has been well thought out. The lack of textual information really allows the viewer to create their own narrative. It makes you think about the pain the people in the photographs are, why do they look like that? What has happened? The entire focus is on the images. The placement is interesting, I can not figure out why they are set in such a way nor why each shape and photo has different size and proportions. In my opinion, I think it interprets the displacement within mental health, ever changing. It also makes me think of being boxed in, something that many people struggling with their mental health feel.
The colour scheme of black and white, makes me think of the common “black and white” thinking often associated with mental illnesses (not all). This is definitely something we will be considering without the design aspect of this project because BPD is known for its polar thinking. Also, we may compile our poster designs into a zine later on in the project and will refer back to this for consideration as the topics are of the same context.
“Polarized thinking or black and white thinking is an irrational thinking characterized by the “all or nothing” principle. People with this unrealistic expectation do not see gray areas in most situations; hence, they often feel frustrated, bitter, and disappointed.”
