- Aim of the article is to simplify the complexities of designing and creating streaming systems like Spotify

- 317 billion streams in 2015 on all ongoing streaming platforms at the time
- In 2016, downloads went down by 10% and streaming went up by 96% and the total world digital music revenue was $6.7billion.
Features found on streaming platforms:
- Offline streaming where users can download songs onto the platform to listen without internet
- Radio channels can also be found on streaming services that not only follow music genres but also moods and activities (gym, studying etc)
- Company curated playlists made available to all users
- Users are able to share their playlists
- "Lossless compression: this allows users that download to use less memory without losing quality of the songs
- Allows users to create their own personal playlists
- Human curated playlists (picked by music experts, musicians etc)
