TIME- SPACE (AND DIGITAL) COMPRESSION: SOFTWARE FORMATS, MUSICAL NETWORKS, AND THE REORGANISATION OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
READING NOTES
This paper is ultimately about the advancement of technology and how it has effected the music industry. Especially looking deep into how the music industry functioned before and after the new technology has been implemented into the natural networks embedded in the industry. I thought this would have been irrelevant to my project however, I think understanding how the industry as a whole has developed through technology might better my understanding of how us designers and musicians have to adapt.
The inner relationships between supply, production and distribution are the main elements that have changed. It speaks of two sides to the argument, the fact that some celebrate the emergence of internet distribution systems and others curse it, which is very similar to a few of the texts I have already looked at that explains there are two sides to the argument.
This will mean that when I am working on my physical side of this project, I will need to consider both sides. How can I accommodate both? I need to remember that, technology is not something we can just cancel, so people do need to accept it to some degree but, how can we use design to help people accept the change?
