(B6) DISCUSSION WITH BRADLEY GOMERSALL

Bradley and I had a discussion on where to go with the project because it was getting close to our selected deadline and design boards needed to be completed. We began by discussing the record cover design which had been my primary responsibility.

This was my favourite design and as a fan of this sort of music, it would be the sort of design that would catch my eye. I also think the photographs go very well with my chladni patterns because of the two-tone colour scheme.

This was Bradley's preferred design because he liked how you can see the divide in the sides of the record together rather than back to back. He also liked the fact the Chladni patterns were the focal element on the front of the record. We both agreed to go with Bradley's choice but, I said I wanted to try the horizontal split in colour on the back so it was more uniformed with the front. I do not think it will look as good as the original but, I want to try it still. I also want to make the type smaller so there is a larger margin between that and the border and it needs to be made more central.

We then spoke about the poster designs and how many posters we actually want to make for the final deliverables. We had both done development on the poster designs so, we had a lot to look through. Instead of choosing whose we would use, we decided that my designs would be more effective as a tapestry design and his poster designs were more effective as posters.

This was the poster design that Bradley really liked from my development and said these would make interesting tapestries. They do have a likeliness to most mandala tapetries that are very popular nowadays but, it fits our genre of music. I want to add our logo on them so it is not to be confused with other tapestry designs.

I said to Bradley that I thought the frame on this poster was the best he had designed and it also stayed in continuity with my record cover design. The middle design was liquified type from another poster he had done. The problem was the typeface was different to the one I had been using so I told him to use Big Carson like the record cover. I also did not understand why he had liquified the type which he went on to explain the more chaotic the music the more manipulated the type. I understood his idea however, it would clash with what I was already doing so we needed to pick one just to keep the designs concise. I think if his poster was animated and gradually became distorted it could work because then it will symbolise the moments of chaos in between patterns. We wanted to stick to the printed poster so, the design would need to be altered to fit the other designs. I suggested he try using a layout similar to my last poster development that had the song names beneath the logo but, he could put a statement there instead like my first poster design. He agreed and said if he puts the cursory word there he could use the flower logo as an asterisk like many designers do to censor the word without censoring it (because everyone knows what it says).

The beanie design was the one we had discussed whilst I was designing it and we were both happy with the last design. So, all that was left was the shirt design. I had planned to experiment with the shirt design however, I had quite a lot of other deliverables I was designing for and with other projects and a deadline nearing, it made more sense for Bradley to take the lead with that design.

Out of all of his designs for the shirt, this one stood out to me because it encompassed everything we had designed for the other deliverables perfectly and did not look like a copy and paste job from the record design. I wanted his to try seeing what the logo would look like small like an embroidered logo similar to big brands like Lacoste and Tommy Hilfiger. I also realised the purple he was using was different to mine so, I sent him the Photoshop colour codes for both colours so it would all be the same. We then spoke about potentially designing the back of the shirt too, a lot of brands nowadays are focusing on the back design and sleeves rather than the front. So, Bradley is going to experiment with that too for the final designs.

The last thing we discussed was mocking the designs up. I had been using the gradients for the majority of my designs and I put it on the shared file for Bradley to use. I mentioned if he prefered another way, I will change mine but, he liked the one I had made.
